I was called in a little while ago to help create a few editorial portfolio images on location in Notting Hill, London. Happy and summery images with lots of colour was the brief, with a contemporary catalogue look.
Shooting on Portobello Road in Notting Hill on the best of days is often a crowded experience. Now, on one of the first really warm early summer weekends it was even busier than usual. In these situations, as a team you have to be a bit more agile, work quickly and at the same time make sure you keep track of expensive gear.
Finding the right location, with flattering light and a complementary background is an important element in the image making process. Identifying the right spot and how you can use that to enhance the style and the mood of the image is crucial and one of the most intriguing parts of location fashion and portrait photography. For me, it is a constant source of inspiration.
Directing the right pose and mood are other important elements for a successful image, together with working with a professional creative team of stylists, hair and makeup. Lighting in this case was fairly simple, with a silver reflector bouncing some of the beautiful sun back towards Cyrielle, giving us a very soft look, suitable for the happy summer theme.
Now, wouldn’t a contemporary fashion portrait of you look fantastic on your wall? Give us a call for a consultation.
